The revised version of Two Souls (originally Two Souls in One) for 4 harps, choir, organ and two narrators, will be performed in Belmont Abbey, Hereford at 11am on Tuesday 26th July as part of the 2022 Hereford Three Choirs Festival.
Commissioned by Hereford Chamber Choir (Dir. Simon Harper) with funds provided by The RVW Trust, and premiered in November 2019, the piece combines the two stories of Hypatia of Alexandria (the great philosopher/mathematician who was murdered by an early Christian mob) and Saint Katherine of Alexandria (of Katherine-wheel fame) who’s legend is likely an appropriation of Hypatia’s life. The piece highlights various contemporaneous themes including feminism, religious fundamentalism and globalisation.
I am delighted to have a dream-team of harpists on board for this concert (Anne Denholm, Anwen Mai Thomas, Esther Beyer and Gabriella Jones), with narrators Tim Bannerman and Hilary Markland.
