The ‘Early’ of the title refers to both the time in my life in which these songs were written, as well as the portrayal of young love. An adolescent, love-struck mix of sentiment, naivety, hurt, longing, obsession etc pervades these settings, where a more typically fulfilled romanticism is never quite achieved.
Four Early Love Songs was premiered by Jessica Summers (Soprano) and Jelena Makarova (Piano) at The Chapel of The Royal Foundation of St. Katherine, Limehouse on 9th July, 2021.
