As part of a number of musical alternatives to the COVID-19 stricken Presteigne Festival, Presteigne Digital, a series of specially-filmed mini-concerts and literary events, will be streamed via the Presteigne Festival website.
Pearl was written for the wonderful Clare Hammond and commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society / Presteigne Festival Alan Horne Memorial Prize in 2012. It was premiered by Clare at the 2013 Prestigne Festival.
This concert will be available to watch online from Wednesday 26th August at 6:30, until 31st December. Concerts are free to watch, though contributions are welcome.
Pearl is a response to the anonymous fourteenth century poem of the same name, concerning a father’s grief for his lost daughter. The second in a number of Pearls, this music is built on a repeating cantus firmus, and moves between a sparse, reflective simplicity and a fuller, more expressionist outpouring.
